Five glamorous women were standing in front of me, but after the shyest girl whispered in my ear, the glass slipped from my hand. At that moment, I realized my past was standing right in front of me 😱💔
I am writing this story on my Facebook page because what happened in my luxurious mansion a few days ago turned my entire life upside down.
That evening, I had just returned from a long business trip. One of my business partners had convinced me to personally choose the face of our new hotel’s advertising campaign.
When I entered the living room, five young adult women were standing in front of me. They were all wearing glamorous evening gowns, beautiful makeup, and confident expressions.
All except one.
She stood slightly apart from the others. She was wearing a black dress, her hands tightly clasped together, her head lowered, as though she were trying to make herself as invisible as possible.
I sat down in a leather armchair with a glass of whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other. Soft music was playing in the room, but even from a distance, I could notice the girl’s anxious breathing.
She would not look at me.
She did not smile.
There was such fear on her face that it seemed she had been brought there not to receive a job offer, but to hear a sentence being passed against her.
I stood up and approached the first woman. She smiled confidently, but after a few seconds, I walked past her without saying a word.
I do not know why, but my attention returned to the girl in the black dress.
I approached her.
She immediately shrank further into herself. When I raised my hand and carefully touched her hair, she turned her face away in disgust and tried to keep her distance from me.
Her reaction surprised me.
The other women silently watched us.
I was about to ask why she was so frightened when the girl suddenly moved a little closer. There was no warmth in her movement. She simply did not want the others to hear her.
In a trembling voice, she whispered something into my ear that left me unable to breathe for several seconds.
“I’m a virgin… You promised that you would always protect me.”
The continuation is in the comments 👇‼️
For several seconds, I could not even breathe. There was something terrifyingly familiar about those words.
“I will always protect you.”
I closed my eyes, and another evening suddenly appeared in my memory.
Twenty-four years earlier.
A small apartment. The sound of rain drifting through an open window. The woman I loved, Elena, was standing near the window and crying.
I was preparing to travel abroad to close my first major business deal. Elena was begging me to stay.
“I’m afraid you’ll leave and never come back,” she said.
I held her in my arms and whispered:
“No matter what happens, I will always protect you. You and the family we will have one day.”
At that moment, I did not yet know she was pregnant.
Only a month later, Elena informed me in a letter that she was expecting a child. I swore I would return soon, but one business problem after another kept delaying me.
Then her friend Victoria called me.
She said Elena had suffered a difficult delivery and that the baby had not survived. She also insisted that Elena no longer wanted to see me.
I called, sent letters, and transferred money, but I never received a response.
Years later, I was told that Elena had died after a serious illness.
I buried all my pain in my work.
I became wealthy, powerful, and successful. But I never started a family because I was convinced that my only child had died on the day she was born.
When I opened my eyes again, the girl in the black dress was still standing in front of me.
I stepped back and looked at her face.
For the first time, I truly saw her eyes.
They were Elena’s eyes.
They looked at me in exactly the same way—frightened, yet stubbornly strong inside.
“Who told you those words?” I asked.
The girl looked at me in confusion.
“My mother.”
“What was your mother’s name?”
Her lips trembled.
“Elena.”
The whiskey glass slipped from my hand and shattered on the floor.
The other four women stared at us in shock, but I no longer noticed anyone else.
The girl pulled an old, folded photograph from her bag and handed it to me.
I was in the photograph—young, poor, and happy. Elena was standing beside me.
On the back, in her handwriting, were the words:
“For our daughter. When she asks who her father is, tell her that he promised to always protect us.”
I felt my knees weaken.
“How old are you?” I asked.
“Twenty-four.”
Everything matched.
My daughter had not died.
She had been alive all this time.
“How did you end up here?”
The girl looked toward the door.
“My stepmother told me we were coming for a job interview. She bought me this dress, took my phone, and said I had to obey every instruction I was given here.”
“Is your stepmother’s name Victoria?”
Surprise appeared on the girl’s face.
“Yes. Do you know her?”
At that moment, I understood who had deceived me all those years ago.
Victoria had told me my baby was dead. Then she had claimed Elena no longer wanted to see me. After Elena’s death, she had adopted my daughter and hidden the truth from her for years.
I immediately ordered every exit from the mansion to be locked.
But Victoria had already disappeared.
We found her bag in the hallway. Inside were Elena’s old letters addressed to me.
They had never been sent.
In one of the letters, Elena had written:
“Our daughter was born healthy. I named her Sophia. You promised to protect us. Please come back.”
I was reading those words twenty-four years too late.
Sophia stood beside me, but she still could not bring herself to call me her father.
I did not try to hug her.
I only said:
“I cannot give you back the years we lost. But this time, I will not break my promise.”
She stared at me for a long time. Then she showed me the final message found on Victoria’s phone.
It read:
“Take the girl to him. He must not understand who Sophia is. If he recognizes her, he will also discover what really happened to Elena.”
I thought I had already learned the most horrifying secret of my life.
But after reading that message, I realized Elena’s death might not have been natural at all.
